Getting started

Starting your own blog/website may be exciting and a bit terrifying at the same time, especially when you’re doing it for the very first time and everything is new to you. Usually a very common dilemma is: How to choose the blogging platform? And which one is better for my needs?

Blogger or self-hosted WordPress?

Let’s take a quick look at both of them to help you make the right decision.

Depending on the platform you intend to use, here are a few easy steps to get your site up and running:

Blogger.com

Here’s our quick guide how to launch your blog in a few easy steps.

1
Find a name & get the domain (optional)

A domain name is the URL or web address that a visitor will use to view your site. You should choose this name carefully as it will be an important part of your brand. Once you’ve decided on the domain name, register it at registar website such as Bluehost.
You don’t need any hosting plan on Blogger platform, so once you have your domain registered – you are ready to go.

2
Choose the theme

Now it’s time for the fun part!
Browse through our collection of beautiful themes and pick the right one for you. Think a while about the purpose (are you looking for a portfolio site to showcase your work? would you like to sell your products? or you’d rather focus on blogging and just write?), your style (are you a minimalist? or maybe you are looking for more sophisticated design?) and vision you have for your on-line presence. It’s good to remember that you can always switch to any design you like along the way and keep your content without starting over.

3
Install the theme

Download the package and unzip it. Install the theme (here you can find our simple step-by-step guide on how to do it) and customize it according to your liking. Upload your logo/header image, select favourite fonts & colors, set up social media links, etc. Feel free to experiment and play with the theme until you reach a design you’ll absolutely love!

4
Launch!

That’s it! Now you are ready to tell the world about you brand new, fantastic site, share the news with your friends, family and on your social media pages.

2
Sign up for a hosting plan

You need a “home” for your blog which means you have to rent some space to install the WordPress software and publish your blog. There are thousands of hosting providers to choose from. From our experience, we can recommend Bluehost as it’s reliable, easy-to-use and affordable option. What’s more, it’s officially recommended by WordPress community.

3
Install WordPress

Once you’ve signed up for a hosting plan, you are ready to install the WordPress software. Bluehost makes it super-simple, all you need to do is just click on the “Install WordPress” button (section “Website”). The installation will be done automatically and within a few minutes, you’ll get blog URL, login URL, username and password. You’ll need these to log in into your WordPress blog.
